Five Great Photo Possibilities

  1. A day in the life. When your little one is older you’ll want to remember what an ordinary day was like. Create a photo portrait, starting from waking up, and including getting dressed, going to school, etc. Then create a scrapbook with captions that you will treasure always (don’t forget to make a copy for Grandma!).
  2. This day, year to year. Choose a special day, like the first day of school, or your child's birthday, and take a portrait of your child on that day every year. Ask her the same ten questions (some ideas: what is your favorite color? who is your best friend? what’s your favorite food? what do you like to do for fun?) and record her answers. When she's all grown up, it’ll be such a treat to look back on how she’s grown and changed.
  3. In black and white. Try taking portraits of your children in black and white. You’ll be surprised at the lovely, old-fashioned feel.
  4. Family portrait. Try something different with your family portrait. How about wearing your pajamas? Or trading clothes—parents for kids? How about a picture of everyone's naked feet (kiddie tootsies are so cute!)? Or hand in hand in hand? Try black turtlenecks against a black background so the total focus is on those beautiful faces.
  5. Turn the tables. Give the kids the camera and see what they come up with. They can photograph each other, or parents and kids, or just the parents. You might inspire a future photographer!
